Portable startup could run a detached or feature checkout, and maintenance had no safe default-branch updater. Require a clean named main tracking canonical origin/main, verify both cached and freshly advertised default/commit identity after fetch, and refuse offline, stale, dirty, hidden/sparse, ahead or diverged source before loading credentials or starting the bot.

Add an explicit stopped-instance control.php update action using the existing state lock and clean fast-forward only. Preserve source and local commits on refusal; never reset, stash, clean, switch branches or restart a process. Stop remains available independently.

Validation: real temporary Git repositories cover successful verification/fast-forward and negative controls; actual control start/update and direct portable bootstrap reject invalid source before credential/Composer/process loading. Portable profile and positive/negative bootstrap tests pass. The options fixture explicitly stubs Git admission, which has its own real entry-point test. Windows/Linux PHP matrix runs the new contracts. No live bot/game, Discord registration, credential, network or security-setting change is included. Depends on PR21; retarget to main after that ordinary merge.
