Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Scheduled commits can now be submitted immediately from the scheduled commits page, without waiting for their scheduled time.
    • The page provides feedback after an attempt, updates a submitted commit’s status and submission time, and disables actions while a request is in progress.
    • Rows retain their order during updates, and the page explains the available commit and cancel options.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Early submission is limited to the commit’s owner and is blocked when that owner is timed out. Canceled commits cannot be submitted.

Walkthrough

Scheduled commits can now be submitted before their scheduled time. An authenticated endpoint checks ownership and applies timeout restrictions before invoking the claim action. The page provides commit-now and cancel controls, and displays submission status.

Changes: Early scheduled commit submission

Layer / File(s) Summary
Authorize and process early submissions
app/Actions/UpdateScheduledCommitSubmittedAt.php, app/Http/Requests/CreateScheduledCommitSubmissionRequest.php, app/Http/Controllers/ScheduledCommitSubmissionController.php, routes/web.php, tests/Feature/ScheduledCommitsTest.php
The claim action can skip the scheduled-time condition when early submission is enabled. The authenticated POST route applies timeout middleware, and the request checks ownership. The controller invokes the claim action and flashes a result message. Feature tests cover successful and repeated submissions, canceled and other-owned items, authentication, and timeouts.
Add scheduled-commit actions
resources/js/pages/scheduled-commits/index.tsx
The page adds commit-now alongside cancellation. Both actions share a busy state. The page preserves row order and submitted-row content during polling, restores focus after an action, and displays submission status.

Merge Risk: Moderate · up to 8a2af

Early submission can bypass the normal commit rate limit. On full lists, submitting an item can also make its row disappear and lose the reader’s position; failed attempts can later show misleading submission status. Resolve these before merging.

Security architecture risk: Low · up to 8a2af

The new action preserves ownership checks, moderation restrictions, and duplicate-submission safeguards. Its endpoint does not apply the shared posting limit, giving authors additional control over when existing scheduled content is released. Scheduling remains rate-limited, which limits the incremental exposure.

Retained concerns

  • Low · security · inferred: The new owner-triggered conversion endpoint operates outside the shared posting budget. Unlike the base’s due-time-only conversion path, it lets an author release existing scheduled content on demand while ordinary posting is throttled. This is a limited enforcement-consistency concern: scheduling is already budgeted, the outstanding backlog is checked at creation, and due-time conversion was already uncharged. The intended accounting policy for early conversion remains unspecified.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The new capability is scoped to the authenticated author’s existing outstanding schedules. It changes release timing and can initiate normal commit-processing work, but does not grant another author’s posting authority or accept arbitrary replacement content. The ten-outstanding validation check limits ordinary creation but should not be treated as a proven hard bound under concurrency.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • inferred — An authenticated author with previously created schedules can exhaust the ordinary posting budget and still request their early conversion. This adds on-demand timing control outside that budget. It does not establish an unbounded abuse path: scheduling remains throttled, content was already stored through the scheduling flow, and the existing worker already performed uncharged due-time conversion.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The browser-supplied record identifier crosses an authenticated route and an explicit owner check before reaching the shared action. Timeout protection applies at the route, and timeout and ban eligibility are rechecked during claiming. Feature-test source covers owner rejection, canceled-item rejection, timeout blocking, and repeated submission.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • inferred — Reusing the existing claim transaction keeps early and automated submission aligned on moderation eligibility, content transfer, and duplicate prevention. The new flag leaves the worker’s due-time check enabled by default, limiting behavioral drift between callers.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Define whether anti-abuse accounting occurs when content is scheduled, when it is converted, or through separate budgets. Apply that policy consistently to early conversion without unintentionally double-charging scheduling or relying on the outstanding-item validation check as a concurrency-safe limit.

Apply the shared commit rate limit to early submissions.

ScheduledCommitSubmissionController::store creates an early scheduled submission, but this route omits ThrottleCommits. An author can therefore submit a scheduled commit after reaching the ordinary commit limit.

Please stabilize the list after “Commit now” in resources/js/pages/scheduled-commits/index.tsx:147–155.

The redirect moves the submitted row below outstanding items immediately. At 390×844, submitting the second row moved subsequent rows upward by 159.5px. With a simulated 2.5-second request delay, this recorded a layout-shift score of 0.1001.

Please preserve the visible reading position through that transition and restore keyboard focus appropriately. preserveScroll: true alone does not preserve a content anchor.

Rows keep the order they had when the page opened, and a row sent with
Commit now keeps showing what was sent, so the list no longer shifts
under the reader. Focus returns to the row, or to Commit now when the
request fails.

Keep a submitted row visible after it leaves the first page.

The listing query sorts submitted commits after all unsubmitted commits. After a user submits a row on a full page, the refreshed page can omit that row. Once the account has more than 20 active scheduled commits, rows no longer contains it. The row disappears, later rows shift upward, and the focus target is lost. Keep the submitted row from the sent snapshot when the refreshed page omits it, or change the listing order so a submitted row stays on the current page.

Record a sent snapshot only after a successful claim.

This update marks the row as sent before the POST succeeds. If the request fails and the scheduler later submits the row, polling uses this snapshot and displays “Submitted just now, ahead of its scheduled time.” The controller can also finish the request without claiming the commit. Keep the snapshot only when the response confirms a claim, and clear it on failure or cancellation. Inertia’s onFinish runs for cancelled requests too, so it cannot confirm success.
