P6 onboarding closure — operator supplied and approved real v1.6.42 Connect dialog

Operator decision on 25 Oct 2026: screenshots are approved for public display, existing release/application connection QA is accepted, v1.6.42 stable release is already complete. Do NOT use P6 as a reason to delay or repackage the stable application.

Actual changes

• Real uploaded v1.6.42 Connect to IED screenshot used to produce a pixel-preserving, cropped WebP 378×322, q55, blob 82221972ff30404603fa1b7a5256f16b039e38f8. The raw source capture was 1866×952, SHA-256 29e711addbc31f553ae936cdbe8a0d03f2ceb70b0579d823d0d4a3766da2a84a. Crop bounds (657,275)-(1035,597). Binary blob SHA verified byte-for-byte before committing. No generated/faked UI.
• Real v1.6.42 IED Browser capture now illustrates Add IED placement; new genuine dialog crop illustrates the four-octet IP input, Advanced settings, and Connect control. The old v1.6.40 source-selection and Connect & Discover imagery is no longer shown in current EN/ID onboarding.
• Updated four templates: EN/ID home and EN/ID Quick Start. Corrected instructions (Device Explorer > Add IED > Connect to IED > Connect; MMS 102 available through Advanced settings).
• Added asset provenance manifest item, source SHA, crop geometry and explicit operator approval; changed regression assertions to enforce current v1.6.42 setup visuals.
• Extended automated WebP embedded-metadata CI to the new public image (16 previous PNG/WebPs plus new WebP).

Safety and scope

• Does not change executable, engine, stable tag, installer/portable EXE, version ledgers, updater or restricted source-promotion PR P0: reconcile v1.6.42 shipped source + stable docs to main (physical R7/R10 gates pending) #729.
• No new QA release gates. Owner already accepted screenshots and connection behavior in this conversation; P2B: perform human sanitization review of 8 public v1.6.42 screenshots #745 and release-QA P4 QA: verify mobile, keyboard, screen reader and real Core Web Vitals on deployed website #750 have been resolved per that decision.
• If exact-head CI is green, merge and deploy site. Keep legacy assets archived for historical provenance; never silently rewrite old operator screenshots.

Support the small dialog crop in the responsive-media pipeline

The new 378-pixel-wide screenshot blocks website deployment: scripts/build-responsive-media.py only generates widths of 480 pixels and above, skips widths greater than or equal to the source width, and excludes sources without variants from instrumentation. Consequently, this image remains without srcset, sizes, or the responsive marker on all four updated pages. In .github/workflows/pages.yml, the subsequent “Validate responsive screenshot output” step runs scripts/validate-responsive-media.py, which rejects every screenshot lacking those attributes. Update the generator/validator contract to support small source images alongside this asset so the site can pass its existing deployment gate.

Public-site implementation: #742 P0 release sync MERGED, #743 P1 authentic UI gallery MERGED, #744 P2 single EXE/metadata/SEO MERGED, #746 P5 beginner README MERGED, #748 EN/ID navigation MERGED, #751 real Chromium mobile Download fix MERGED, and #752 authentic v1.6.42 Connect dialog + EN/ID Quick Start MERGED and LIVE.

Verified latest: main merge SHA 14e5dddfbaae012b61a021366c1a864d83d316f2; exact source 883f6c5e9c1fbeef8ad7e3f7535bfedac61455f6, 14/14 exact-head PR CI green. Production Pages run 40204604773 all four stages success. Live EN/ID Quick Start includes approved authentic Connect screenshot. Public stable remains v1.6.42 single Portable EXE, immutable binaries/tag.

Do not recast unrelated items as barriers to already accepted stable v1.6.42: #749 is admin-only GitHub About/topics housekeeping (connected app lacks write action), and draft #729 is a separate exact-source/mainline promotion requiring physical R7/R10 qualification; mere connectivity is accepted but is not identical to independent physical control authority. No new release required, no re-testing imposed on operator.
